Weight Loss Medications

At Lately, we take time to understand your health and goals, then help you explore the support you need.

Questions about medicated weight loss

Medication may be suitable if you’re 18 or over with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure. We look at your whole health, including your medical history, current medicines and what you’re hoping to change, before recommending treatment. Tell us if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy, as this affects which options may be suitable. Meeting the BMI criteria doesn’t guarantee a prescription.

The medicines in our programme act on the signals that help regulate appetite. They work like natural hormones in your body, helping you feel fuller, less hungry and less preoccupied with food. This can make it easier to eat less and build changes to your eating and activity that fit your life. Medication is one part of the programme, alongside clinical care and support throughout treatment.

There isn’t one figure or timeline that applies to everyone. Results depend on the medicine, the dose and how your body responds, alongside changes to your eating and activity. Treatment usually starts at a low dose and increases gradually, with progress assessed over months. When we open, each treatment’s page will explain the clinical trial results, including the doses and timeframes studied. We’ll review your progress and how you’re feeling along the way, with your wider health in mind.

Your care starts with a clinical assessment to check whether the potential benefits outweigh the risks for you. Common side effects include feeling sick, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. These often ease as your body adjusts, although some can persist or need treatment. Less common side effects can be serious: severe, persistent stomach pain or being unable to keep fluids down needs urgent medical attention. Before you start, we’ll provide clear information about your medicine, what to look out for and how to get help. Lately’s clinical team is here to support you throughout treatment.

You don’t need to know which medicine you want before starting your assessment. Weekly injections and daily tablets fit into life differently, and some tablets have specific instructions around food and drink. Your clinician will consider your health, other medicines and preferences before suggesting suitable options. If more than one is appropriate, you can choose the option that fits your routine and budget best. If you’re unsure, we’ll help you understand the differences.

When we open, you’ll start by telling us about your health, your weight and what you’re hoping to change. A qualified clinician reviews your answers, with checks to verify the information needed and further questions where necessary. If treatment is suitable, they’ll suggest a plan for you to consider. You can decide whether to go ahead, and we’ll make any charges and payment terms clear before you agree to them. Completing an assessment doesn’t guarantee a prescription.

Lately’s clinical team is here to help with questions, side effects, dose changes and restarting after a break. We’ll review your progress and how you’re feeling so treatment can be adjusted when appropriate. Alongside medication, you’ll receive practical guidance on eating well and building activity into your day. The aim is to help you make manageable changes that fit your life, with support as your needs change.

There’s no fixed length of treatment that suits everyone. Some people need longer-term medication to maintain their progress, and we’ll review whether treatment continues to be appropriate for you. Appetite can increase after stopping, and weight regain is common, even with continued efforts around eating and activity. If you’d like to stop or switch, Lately’s clinical team is here to help you understand your options and plan the next step, including how to support your weight and health afterwards.
